We generate art, music, literature, and other expressions of our lives and our culture, infused from our experience of disability. Most importantly, we are proud of ourselves as people with disabilities. We claim our disabilities with pride as part of our identity.”
The Lexington Foundation established the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts, a community facility, in 2015. It is named for Lexington’s former executive director, who led the agency for 42 years. Paul worked tirelessly to support people with disabilities and believed that every person could achieve success and fulfillment. A lifelong lover of the arts as well, he founded Lexington’s world-famous rock band, Flame, a group of musicians who refused to let their disabilities be a barrier to success. The Nigra Arts Center is the home base for Lexington’s famous band, Flame.
The mission of the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is to provide a creative education resource for people of all ages and abilities while celebrating the arts through classes, entertainment, exhibitions and special events. Additionally, we are committed to offering accessible art programs for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and anyone with different abilities.
The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is open to all members of the community. The facility is open year-round to offer fun family events, educational opportunities, arts programming and more to creative minds of all ages and levels of ability. It provides a rich assortment of classes in all types of art media, including cooking, performing arts, painting, yoga, music and more. It is also a venue for theatrical and musical performances, and a rent-able location for any kind of private or business event. We are dedicated to making this center a dynamic place to learn about the arts and contribute to the creative community .
